New QOTP Prescriber Options Available

Queensland Health has established two new prescriber options under the Queensland Opioid Treatment Program (QOTP).

1) A buprenorphine-naloxone only pathway
Medical practitioners and nurse practitioners in General Practice and other community and primary health care settings will be able to apply for approval to prescribe buprenorphine-naloxone medication for the treatment of opioid dependence for up to 20 suitable patients.

2) An interim prescriber pathway within Hospital and Health Services.
Medical practitioners and nurse practitioners working in a Hospital and Health Service Alcohol and Other Drug Services (HHS-AODS) will be able to apply for
approval to prescribe the full suite of pharmacotherapy options for the treatment of opioid dependence for up to three months.
