The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) produces Drug Trends annually every year, and this year have utilised data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to look at trends in opioid, amphetamine and cocaine-induced deaths in Australia from 1997-2016. The bulletin reveals that 1,045 Australians aged 15-64 died of an opioid overdose in 2016 and the majority of these deaths (76%) were attributable to pharmaceutical opioids. The online resource is interactive and allows you to analyse and break down the trends relevant to your interest (e.g. drug, intent, age group, sex etc.).
