National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) recently hosted a webinar titled, "Residential Rehabilitation: current evidence and future research directions", presented by Associate Professor Peter Kelly, Clinical Psychologist based at the School of Psychology, University of Wollongong. The fantastic presentation provided a practical and easy-to-understand overview of the existing evidence base underpinning residential rehabilitation, including the different models of service, length of treatment and the role of aftercare including research findings from a research project which involved providing telephone support as a continuing care intervention for people who completed and left residential treatment.

The webinar also discusses some of the challenges faced when conducting research within residential treatment. This included difficulties conducting randomised controlled trials in a residential facility and issues following up after treatment.
