Dual Diagnosis

Workers in both alcohol and drug and mental health services are expected to provide integrated treatment to clients / patients experiencing co-occurring mental health and alcohol and other drug concerns. In fact it is sometimes safer to assume that clients who are experiencing significant and enduring problematic substance use also experience mental health issues - as well as other health, social and legal problems. So whilst the term 'dual' suggests the existence of just two conditions, in reality we are often dealing with clients who have multiple, complex needs.

Queensland workers can access a wide range of online and face-to-face mental health training through our friends at the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning (aka "The Learning Centre") including the QC46 Dual Diagnosis eLearning module.  It is free and takes approximately 6 hours to complete.
