treatment progress with standardised measures (e.g.\, validated questionn
aire\, interview schedule). However\, the use of such measures can be time
-consuming and raises the question of what should be measured to best guid
e treatment. This presentation will provide an overview of how theoretical
ly-driven assessment can be harnessed to better personalise treatment and
enhance clinical outcomes.\n\nAssociate Professor Matthew Gullo is a clini
cal psychologist and MRFF Translating Research into Practice (TRIP) Princi
pal Research Fellow at the Centre for Youth Substance Abuse Research\, The
University of Queensland. Matthew's research seeks to improve the assessm
ent and treatment of substance use disorder through a better understanding
of the complex biosocial cognitive mechanisms involved\, revealing new ta
rgets for personalised intervention. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed
scientific publications and been awarded over $2.8m in research funding.
Matthew led the ‘Psychosocial Interventions’ section of the 2020 Commo
nwealth Guidelines for the Treatment of Alcohol Problems. He holds an appo
intment as Visiting Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Alcohol and Drug A
ssessment Unit\, Princess Alexandra Hospital. Here\, he has led several in
novations in service delivery that have benefited over 6\,000 patients to-
