This T.R.A.U.M.A. mnemonic, adapted by Khouzam (2001) and re-designed by Insight, describes some of the key characteristics required for a diagnosis of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The mnemonic was developed to assist clinicians when considering a diagnosis, but may be useful for a number of different workers as a way to consider formulating a case, and examine how past trauma(s) may be impacting on a person’s day to day functioning. NB: some people who have experienced trauma may not experience difficulties in these areas.
