"The Starter Pack" for Primary Care Staff

Free Alcohol and Other Drug Education for General Practice Staff

Information

"The Starter Pack" is a free educational package designed to assist general practice managers, practice nurses, Aboriginal Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing Workers and practice reception staff to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively respond to patients experiencing problematic alcohol and other drug (AOD) use in Queensland.

The package comprises nine brief education activities - an introductory eLearning module and eight live and recorded lunchbox education sessions - designed specifically for primary care practice staff.

eLEARNING MODULE: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE WORLD OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS

This introductory eLearning provides a brief overview of the key concepts and practice principles underpinning effective alcohol and other drug treatment. NB: This eLearning is a pre-requisite to the Lunchbox Education Sessions.

EIGHT LUNCHBOX EDUCATION SESSIONS

The Lunchbox Educations Sessions are a series of eight free half-hour Zoom-based workshops held on Tuesdays between 12:30 – 1:00pm (AEST) over two 4-week blocks. Learn about an array of topics and skills from a range of alcohol and other drug experts in a fun, engaging and interactive format with opportunities to ask questions and discuss specific examples from your practice.

There is also a bonus eLearning module focusing on the ASSIST Screening Tool for those primary care practice staff who undertake screening and brief interventions as part of their role.
