Re-thinking how we ask about drinking: The Grog Survey App

by Insight

There is a lack of accurate data on patterns of drinking and drug use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) Australians. The most reliable data is more than two decades old and specific to First Nations Australians living in urban areas. Compared to an interview by Indigenous health professionals, the Grog Survey App has been shown to be acceptable and valid, and more accurate than standard survey approaches.

Kylie is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney and Deputy Director of the Centre of Research Excellence in Indigenous Health and Alcohol. Her research in alcohol and other drug use is led by community or health service requests. Kylie is lead editor on a clinical textbook requested by Indigenous alcohol and other drug workers nationally and has been invited to assist Inuit and Sri Lankan communities in knowledge translation.
