This webinar will present the preliminary findings from a recent study examining the impacts of cultural load on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers. The research highlights how additional cultural responsibilities such as community expectations, cultural brokerage, and managing kinship relationships affect worker wellbeing, stress, and role clarity.

The session will provide a clear overview of the major themes, the challenges identified by participants, and the implications for organisations aiming to build culturally safe and supportive workplaces. Practical recommendations for reducing cultural load and strengthening the AOD workforce will also be shared.

Karina Clarkson is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander AOD Workforce Education Coordinator at Insight.
