MODULE AIM:This module provides a broad overview of the foundational concepts that are used when working with people who use psychoactive substances.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • utilise best practice AOD language and terminology, including slang and common acronyms
  • describe psychoactive substances and differentiate the three main drug classification types
  • describe why people use substances, including patterns of use
  • describe key theoretical models such as 'Drug, Set and Setting' and the ‘Stages of Change’
  • describe the policy and practice of harm minimisation.
