MODULE AIM:

This module will explore how to conduct effective screening and brief interventions for problem gambling. 

While some sections highlight options available to Queensland Health Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug (MHAOD) workers, the package provides mostly general information for any worker wanting to increase their understanding and skills in this area. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of this module, learners will be able to: 

  • Define problem gambling.
  • Understand the prevalence of problem gambling with a focus on those people who access alcohol and other drug (AOD) and mental health services. 
  • Identify gambling-related harms.
  • Recognise service barriers to identifying and responding to problem gambling.
  • Administer validated brief problem gambling screening tool(s).
  • Be able to deliver a problem gambling brief intervention.
  • Provide information on resources and referral options for people experiencing problem gambling.
