Learning from 50 Years of Aboriginal Alcohol Programs: Beating the Grog in Australia

by Insight

In the half century that has passed since state and territory governments in Australia stopped trying to prevent Aboriginal Australians from consuming alcohol, many programs have attempted to prevent or treat harms arising from alcohol. These initiatives, however, have not generated a strong evidence base regarding program effectiveness. In this presentation, the authors of a new book that reviews community-based initiatives over the last 50 years share key findings and the lessons to be drawn from them.

Honorary professor Dr Peter d’Abbs and researcher Ms Nicole Hewlett work for the School of Public Health at the University of Queensland.
