MODULE AIM:

Completion of this module will enable health practitioners to understand the use of benzodiazepines and z-drugs as a pharmacotherapy. 

This module aims to provide the health practitioners with the basic principle of rational prescribing of benzodiazepines and z-drugs, as well as recommendations of best practice for tapering and discontinuation of these medicines when applicable. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Summarise the evidence for benzodiazepines and z-drugs across various conditions. 
  • Apply pharmaceutical knowledge and rational prescribing principles to ensure safe prescribing of benzodiazepines and z-drugs. 
  • Identify how to perform an evidence-informed taper of benzodiazepines. 
  • Identify how to perform an evidence-informed taper of z-drugs.
LENGTH:1 hour
CPD:

This module is accredited for:

  • 0.5 hours of Educational Activities and 0.5 hours of Reviewing Performance with RACGP;
  • 1 hours of CPD with ACRRM; and
  • 1 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 1 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 2 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities with APC.
