MODULE AIM

Completion of this module will enable health practitioners to understand the use of benzodiazepines and z-drugs as a pharmacotherapy.

This module aims to provide the health practitioners with the basic principle of rational prescribing of benzodiazepines and z-drugs, as well as recommendations of best practice for tapering and discontinuation of these medicines when applicable. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • summarise the evidence for benzodiazepines and z-drugs across various conditions.
  • apply pharmaceutical knowledge and rational prescribing principles to ensure safe prescribing of benzodiazepines and z-drugs
  • identify how to perform an evidence-informed taper of benzodiazepines
  • identify how to perform an evidence-informed taper of z-drugs.
