TARGET AUDIENCEAll AOD, Mental Health, and SEWB workers who provide counselling and/or case management style support to people accessing services.
MODULE AIMThe aim of this module is to build your confidence and capability in recognising, understanding, and supporting emotion regulation in people affected by trauma.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • explain the link between trauma, emotional dysregulation, and AOD or mental health challenges
  • describe coping strategies and their connection with trauma and substance use
  • recognise signs of hyperarousal, hypoarousal, and optimal arousal using the window of tolerance model
  • apply strategies that support emotion regulation
  • reflect on the role of the nervous system in emotional responses
  • identify strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches when supporting someone who is triggered or overwhelmed
  • practise skills and activities that help widen a person’s window of tolerance and support healing over time

CPDParticipation in this activity may contribute to CPD. A Statement of Completion will be issued on completion of this module.
