MODULE AIMThis module provides participants with the theoretical understanding of the place of opioids in therapy and the opioid deprescribing process including pharmacotherapies to assist with discontinuation symptoms.  
LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • identify the place of opioids in therapy
  • determine the risk benefit ratio in continued prescribing / dispensing
  • construct a patient-centred tapering plan through prioritising patient agreement and effective collaboration
  • identify and recommend specific pharmacotherapies and strategies to treat symptoms of medication discontinuation and withdrawal
  • evaluate patient progress and apply pharmaceutical knowledge in adjusting the tapering plan during an opioid discontinuation.
