MODULE AIM:This module provides participants with the theoretical understanding of the place of opioids in therapy and the opioid deprescribing process including pharmacotherapies to assist with discontinuation symptoms.  
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the place of opioids in therapy.  
  • Determine the risk benefit ratio in continued prescribing / dispensing.
  • Construct a patient-centred tapering plan through prioritising patient agreement and effective collaboration.
  • Identify and recommend specific pharmacotherapies and strategies to treat symptoms of medication discontinuation and withdrawal.
  • Evaluate patient progress and apply pharmaceutical knowledge in adjusting the tapering plan during an opioid discontinuation.
LENGTH:1.5 hours
CPD:

This module is accredited for:

  • 1.0 hours of Educational Activities and 0.5 hours of Reviewing Performance with RACGP;
  • 1.5 hours of CPD with ACRRM; and
  • 1.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1.5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities with APC.
