MODULE AIMMaintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout the maternal journey is essential for improved long-term outcomes for mother and child. This eLearning will help you discuss smoking (tobacco and e-cigarettes) with women and apply the ‘Ask, Advise and Help’ skills to support them to improve their health.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • understand the effects of smoking for women in pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and post pregnancy
  • understand the effect of smoking on the foetus and infants
  • apply brief interventions (3-step model) to support women and families to change their health behaviours around smoking
  • describe how to use a carbon monoxide monitor to illustrate the impact smoking can have on the pregnant women and her unborn baby
  • understand the use of nicotine replacement therapy to support quitting
  • identify quit smoking support available, as well as resources and further learning to support the use of brief interventions.

CPDParticipation in this activity may contribute to CPD. A Statement of Completion will be issued on completion of this module.
