TARGET AUDIENCEAll AOD, Mental Health, and SEWB workers who provide counselling and/or case management style support to people accessing services.
MODULE AIMTo aim of this module is to build confidence and capability to screen for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in a trauma-informed, respectful, and supportive way.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • explain why screening for PTSD is important in AOD and mental health settings
  • identify the strengths and limitations of screening tools, and when screening should be conducted
  • describe how to introduce and administer a PTSD screen using trauma-informed principles
  • use the PC-PTSD-5 CL tool appropriately and interpret scores sensitively
  • respond to people’s disclosures and screening results using supportive, non-clinical language
  • discuss follow-up steps and supports that may assist clients experiencing trauma-related conditions
