MODULE AIM

This is module 3 of our 'Fundamentals of Suicidality' eLearning course. The overarching aim of the course is to provide an access point for workers to understand foundational concepts associated with suicidal ideation, intent, and behaviours; and resources to support workers who interact with people who experience (or are on a pathway towards experiencing) suicidality.

This course is made up of four modules, and it is recommended that you complete each one in order:

  • L2.11 1/4 Understanding suicide and suicidality.
  • L2.11 2/4 Communicating about suicide and suicidality.
  • L2.11 3/4 Supporting long-term reduction in suicide and suicidality.
  • L2.11 4/4 Addressing short-term safety in the context of suicide and suicidality.

This module discusses how to use the IMV model to co-create a plan which targets factors in the person's life that contribute to their suicidality. By doing this, we can work towards reducing the person's suicidality long-term.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • use the IMV model to create goals designed to reduce suicidality long-term
  • describe general principles of intervention that should be embodied when working with a person on their suicidality
  • develop a planned approach to observations and interview questions designed to gather information relevant to the IMV model.
