Clients of AOD services have high rates of PTSD and prior exposure to trauma. Substance use is an attempt to cope with these difficulties. Unidentified and untreated trauma perpetuates the cycle of trauma, addiction and relapse. MNMH-ADS developed a model of Trauma Informed Care and Practice to address this problem. This presentation will outline how this model was implemented and give guidelines for AOD services who want to become trauma informed.
