Young people with alcohol and drug concerns often report previous experiences of trauma. However, workers can experience a number of challenges in responding to these clients, including a fear that they may 'do more harm' in trying to address trauma. This seminar will explore the relationship between trauma and substance use and consider what individual workers and services can do to respond more effectively.
Presenter: Laura Quinlan is a Social Worker at 'Hot House', Youth Specialised Clinical Service, Metro North Mental Health - Alcohol and Drug Service. Laura has worked extensively with young people across mental health, alcohol and drug and criminal justice settings and has a special interest in improving service access and outcomes for marginalised young people.
