Overview

Welcome to the Queensland Opioid Treatment Program (QOTP) Online Prescriber Course.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There are 3 self-paced eLearning modules available for GPs and other Medical and Nurse Practitioners seeking to become authorised to prescribe opioid dependence treatment medications in Queensland.

MODULE 1: Understanding opioid dependence, assessment and treatment

MODULE 2: Buprenorphine-naloxone and long-acting injection buprenorphine

MODULE 3: Buprenorphine-mono and methadone

The first two modules require sequential completion in order to be eligible for approval as a Level 2 QOTP prescriber in Queensland, whereby you can apply for authorisation to prescribe buprenorphine-naloxone and long-acting injection buprenorphine formulations.

Further sequential completion of the third module - Buprenorphine-mono and methadone, followed by a clinical placement shadowing an existing Level 1 Prescriber - is required in order to become a Level 1 Full QOTP Prescriber, whereby you can prescribe the full suite of opioid dependence treatment medications available in Queensland.

To arrange your clinical placement, please contact your local Hospital and Health Service (HHS) Alcohol and Other Drugs Service. To find your nearest provider contact Adis:24/7 Alcohol and Drug Support on 1800 177 833 or use their online Service Finder.

To apply for approval simply attach your eLearning module completion certificates which are emailed to you upon completion of each module. These can also be downloaded from your Insight account by clicking the ‘Profile’ button at the top right-hand side of the Insight website when you are logged in to your account. Attach these certificates to a completed Patient-Class Prescriber Form and completed Supervised Clinical Attachment Tool and send to Queensland Health's Medicines Approvals and Regulation Unit (MARU) at QOTP@health.qld.gov.au.

NB: Whilst not mandatory, modules are highly recommended for practitioners entering into Shared Care QOTP arrangements with Queensland Health HHS AOD Services.
