This 1-day workshop will explore a broad range of family inclusive approaches, strategies and tools that can assist in improving the effectiveness of alcohol and drug treatment, including addressing some of the specific barriers to implementing family-inclusive approaches in practice. It focuses on working with the client, working with family, and working with the client and family together. It is suitable for all practitioners based in AOD and mental health settings.

By the end of this workshop learners will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of substance use on families
  • Understand how to include families in intake and assessment processes, including how to explain and manage confidentiality
  • Understand how to use genograms and timeline approaches in the content of treatment
  • Understand a range of tips and strategies for family self-care. Understand single session work with families & clients.
