Target audience: Queensland based workers in any role across healthcare and community settings who are supporting individuals impacted by problematic alcohol and drug (AOD) use.

Please note this is a two-day workshop:

Day 1: Wednesday 1st October 2025, 9:00am - 4:30pm

Day 2: Thursday 2nd October 2025 9:00am - 4:30pm

Workshop description: This workshop, based on the principles and practices of Motivational Interviewing (MI), offers an opportunity to learn skills for having MI-consistent conversations across different stages of client readiness for change.

Important: To receive a Certificate of Completion for this workshop, participants will need to attend for the full duration of the training on both days and participate in the Masters Class activity at the end of Day 2. Please ensure your availability prior to registering. 

What will be covered:

  • Understanding the MI approach and its relevance in supporting people experiencing AOD issues.
  • Exploring the spirit of MI: partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment.
  • Techniques for creating a safe and non-judgmental space for open conversations.
  • Techniques for engaging people who are at different stages of readiness in relation to their problematic AOD use
  • Tools and resources for continuous learning and application of MI.
