Tools and resources to support the supply and safe administration of Take Home Naloxone for clients and patients who use opioids
This toolkit comprises tools and resources related to Take Home Naloxone, including links to Insight's THN Brief Intervention and accompanying eLearning and training videos.
NB: Queensland workers who are already trained and approved to possess and supply naloxone through their employing organisation DO NOT need to complete this training or use this Brief Intervention to continue delivering this service. It is a voluntary eLearning module and Brief Intervention tool only.
Furthermore, completing the "THN Brief Intervention Training for Workers" eLearning module does not automatically grant you personal approval to possess or supply naloxone in Queensland. Your employing entity needs to have Queensland Health approval and, in turn, grant you internal authorisation prior to you supplying THN to a client or patient.
SO, WHO IS ALREADY APPROVED TO POSSESS AND SUPPLY THN IN QUEENSLAND?
WHAT IF MY QUEENSLAND-BASED ENTITY DOES NOT HAVE APPROVAL?
Your employing entity must apply to the Healthcare Approvals and Regulation Unit (HARU) within Queensland's Department of Health for authorisation to possess and supply THN. Email HARU@health.qld.gov.au or call (07) 3708 5264 for more information.
Organisations who are seeking this approval are welcome to use this eLearning package and Brief Intervention as part of their application with HARU.
NB: In an emergency overdose situation, any worker who has previously completed a THN training course can administer naloxone to an affected person.
FOR WORKERS IN OTHER STATES OR TERRITORIES...
