Target audience: Queensland based workers in any role across healthcare and community settings who are supporting individuals impacted by alcohol and drug (AOD) use.

Please note this is a two-day workshop:

Day 1:  Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, 8:30am - 4:00pm

Day 2: Wednesday, 4th February 2026 8:30am - 4:00pm

This workshop, based on the principles and practices of Motivational Interviewing (MI), offers an opportunity to learn skills for having MI-consistent conversations across different stages of a person's readiness for change.

Important: To receive a Certificate of Completion for this workshop, participants will need to attend for the full duration of the training on both days. 

What will be covered:

  • The relational skills of MI including the spirit of MI and ways to create a safe and non-judgmental space for open conversations.
  • The technical skills of MI for engaging people who are at different stages of readiness in relation to their AOD use. 
  • Tools and resources for continuous learning and application of MI.
